Lewis Hamilton under investigation by FIA for Breonna Taylor shirt

by

The FIA are investigating whether Lewis Hamilton broke any rules by wearing a T-shirt with a message relating to Breonna Taylor.

The Formula 1 star wore the T-shirt both before and after his win at the Tuscan GP.

The front of Hamilton's T-shirt bore the words, "Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor".

The back of the shirt had a picture of Taylor's face below the words, "say her name".

He also wore the shirt on the podium as he collected his winners trophy. He also ended his post-race interview by saying, "Justice for Breonna Taylor".

Taylor, a 26-year-old medical student, was shot and killed by police officers in March during a raid of her home in Louisville, Kentucky.

Hamilton first wore the T-shirt ahead of the race as F1 drivers took a knee as part of their anti-racism ceremony.

Speaking in subsequent interviews, Hamilton said: "It took me a long time to get that shirt and I've been wanting to wear that and bring awareness to the fact that there's people that have been killed on the street and there's someone that got killed in her own house, and they're in the wrong house, and those guys are still walking free.

"We can't rest, we can't... we have to continue to raise awareness with it."

Hamilton joins an evergrowing list of sport stars from organisations such as the NBA, WNBA and NFL, who are using their platform to speak about Breonna Taylor and the circumstances surrounding her death.
