Jose Mourinho slams "lazy" Tottenham stars after Everton defeat

Jose Mourinho tore into his “lazy” players after Tottenham suffered a devastating defeat.

Mourinho was fuming with referee Martin Atkinson after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s winner but was also hugely critical of his players for their lack of effort.

Tottenham boss Mourinho, who was angry for the officials for allowing Lucas Digne’s free kick for Calvert-Lewin to be taken from the wrong place, said: “We were lazy in our pressing.

“That is a consequence of bad fitness, bad pre-season. Some players didn't even have a pre-season. Some players had a wrong state of mind.

“I did not like my team today. I did not like so many referees and officials to allow the free kick to be taken six metres from where it should have been.

“But we did not have the physical condition, we had no intensity. Harry Kane has trained with us once. Moussa Sissoko just twice. For different reasons, players have not been able to train.

“We had cases of positive coronavirus tests, we had other players who had to quarantine, other players away with the national team.

“Matt Doherty is normally a player with incredible fitness. But Matt was struggling to play the way you want him to play.

Harry Kane has only had one training session

“I could not expect them to be sharp, intense and agile. But I was expecting much more. Of course that disappoints me. I am disappointed. But now I have to work.”

Mourinho insisted it was not just down to Kane’a lack of fitness as to why Tottenham struggled but did not deny they are interested in Trabzonspor striker Alexander Sørloth after the Turkish club confirmed they have held talks.

Mourinho added: “I’m not going to discuss the player because he belongs to Trabzonspor but if the president says that then I am not going to say it is not true.”
