Rami Malek on playing creepy villain in upcoming Bond movie

Rami Malek wanted to make Bond villain Safin, "unsettling" in upcoming movie 'No Time To Die'.

Malek won an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddy Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and will now play James Bond's latest nemesis, Safin.

The upcoming movie is set to be Daniel Craig's fifth and final outing as the British spy.

Footage from the film's trailer shows Malek's villainous character sporting heavy scarring around his face.

Speaking in the latest featurette for the movie, Malek said, "What I really wanted from Safin was to make him unsettling, thinking of himself as being heroic.

“Safin is a formidable adversary, James Bond has to adapt to that.”

Director Cary Joji Fukunaga added: “What he wants and what he’s willing to do makes him a very frightening character, both personally to Bond but also on a global level.”

Footage from the film shows Safin telling Bond: “We both eradicate people to make the world a better place, I just want to be a little tidier.”

He also tells Bond: “I’ve made you redundant,” to which the spy replies: “No, not as long as there are people like you in the world.”

The film will focus on Bond following his retirement from active service, however, his peaceful new life in Jamaica is short-lived.

When his old CIA friend Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) turns up asking for help, Bond is coaxed back into the fold to help snuff out Safin and his evil plans.

No Time To Die is due to be released in cinemas on November 12th, with its previous release date in April being pushed back due to the global pandemic.
