Young man suffers serious head injury on night out in Derby
A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm
by Ben LyonsA young man suffered a head injury in an alleged assault in Derby city centre at the weekend.
Police cordoned off part of the Corn Market area of the city on Saturday night after being called to reports of an assault just before 10pm.
A 29-year-old man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with a head injury.
Officers say a 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). He has since been released under investigation.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire police said: "We were called to a report of an assault in Corn Market, Derby shortly after 9.50pm on Saturday, September 12.
“A 29-year-old man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with a head injury.
“A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and has since been released under investigation, whilst enquiries continue.
“Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact us quoting reference number 2*479382.”

One woman who saw the police in Derby city centre at the time said: "Police was the last thing I expected to see tonight.
"I was just out trying to enjoy a socially-distanced drink. I hope everyone is okay.
"I’ve always classed Derby as a safe city and I hope it continues to be so."
