11 die of Covid-19 in Jharkhand on Sunday
by PNSNearly a dozen people died of Covid-19 infection in Jharkhand on Sunday, taking the Covid toll in the state to 555 and the mortality rate up to 0.90 per cent, figures released by the health department stated.
Out of the 11 deaths reported in 24 hours, six were from East Singhbhum, a district that has reported 244 of the 555 Covid casualties in Jharkhand, government data highlighted. As per government data, West Singhbhum and Godda reported two deaths each, while one patient died during treatment in Dhanbad. Meanwhile, as many as 1014 people, including 399 from Ranchi alone, were found infected by the deadly virus on Sunday, a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM) said. However, Ranchi also reported the highest number of Covid recoveries on Sunday. As per the NHM bulletin, 570 of the 1509 people who recovered from the viral infection on Sunday were from Ranchi district.
As per latest figures with the government, as many as 3,466 residents of Ranchi were battling the virus by Sunday midnight. There were 14,336 active cases of infection in Jharkhand and 3,071 of them were from East Singhbhum. Ranchi and East Singhbhum account for nearly half of the active cases in Jharkhand.
Sunday’s findings took the Covid-19 tally in Jharkhand to 61,474, and at least 13,192 of the total cases were from Ranchi. The tally in East Singhbhum, as per latest figures with the health department, was 10,660. Dhanbad has reported nearly 4000 cases, while over 3000 people were found infected in Bokaro so far.
On Sunday, the government collected swab samples of 16,033 people and tested 14,731 of them. Health workers across Jharkhand have collected swab samples of 13.92 lakh people since the virus made its entry in the state, and around 13.16 lakh of these samples were tested so far. As per government figures, at least 46,583 people have recovered from Covid infection in the state, and Ranchi has reported the highest number of recoveries. As many as 9,636 Ranchi residents have overcome the viral infection so far. The number of Covid patients who defeated the virus in East Singhbhum was 7,170.
Government data reveals that nearly 80 per cent of the 555 Covid victims in Jharkhand were men – a trend that shows that men were more prone to Covid casualties than women. Out of the 555 casualties, 419 were men.
