by

Warangal Urban: Erstwhile District Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Mandala Parashuramulu said many children are still suffering from malnutrition, especially in rural areas, despite the Central and State governments implementing various nutrition schemes for the benefit of children in villages and towns.

Childline-1098, Warangal Urban district has organised a training programme on child marriages and malnutrition here on Monday. The event was presided over by MD Iqbal Pasha, nodal coordinator, Warangal Urban District’s Childline -1098.

Addressing the participants, the CWC chairperson, who was the chief guest, said the main symptoms of malnutrition are frequent illness in children, being underweight and under height, being weak, always lazy and irritable and delayed in the developmental stages of the child.

“Parents should pay special attention to their child’s growth and provide them with more fruits, leafy vegetables, protein, milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Anganwadi workers, child marriage ban officers, NGOs and leaders of various parties should take steps to prevent the child marriages. Girls can contact the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for any assistance,” he added.

Hanmakonda Urban Child Development Project Officer (ICDS-CDPO), K  Madhurima said the role of Anganwadi workers is very much in building a society free of malnutrition and child marriages.

“Good results would come if everyone worked together for the development of boys and girls at the ward level, especially with a sense of dedication,” she said and added that they should take advantage of all the schemes provided by the government without worrying about the birth of a girl child.

Childline nodal coordinator MD Iqbal Pasha said that the governments should allocate more funds for their development of the children and make education and health accessible to all.

Childline Coordinator Ragi Krishnamurthy said that the Childline-1098 is constantly working on children’s issues 24 hours a day and lauded the services of Anganwadi workers who are working with dedication at the field level on various issues faced by children. ICDS Supervisors V Rajyalakshmi, J Nirmala, T Kavitha and Anganwadi workers attended the programme.
