The Typhoons from RAF Leuchars were sent out earlier this morningm the MoD confirmed - just a day after a Russian aircraft was intercepted by similar fighters.

It's reported that the Typhoons were scrambled from the Fife base

Military monitoring site Mili Radar reported the planes being sent out around 11.48am.

Operators said that the jets had been scrambled from the base in Fife.

A RAF spokesperson said: "QRA Typhoon Fighters have been launched and are being supported by a Voyager tanker, however, we do not offer comment on ongoing operations."

The BBC reported over the weekend that the MoD said Typhoons were scrambled after the Russian aircraft "entered the UK's controlled zone of international airspace".

The Russian planes were identified as reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare aircraft.
