‘The Omen’ Prequel from ‘The Conjuring’ Writers Still in the Works at Disney’s 20th Century Studios?
by John SquiresAfter three sequels, a remake and a short-lived television series, The Omen franchise has been lying dormant since 2016, but it did subsequently show some signs of life back when it was announced that same year that a feature film prequel was in the works at 20th Century Fox. Now that Disney owns 20th Century Studios, is the project dead in the water?
Chatting with ComicBook.com this week, writers Chad and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring, The Conjuring 2) suggested that the project, which they wrote, may still have life left in it.
“We did the prequel to The Omen, which is also sitting over at Fox, that, rumor has it, that it is going into production,” Chad told the site. “So we’ll see what happens.”
Carey added, “We get to tell you where Damien came from. It was really fun. That was great.”
Damien Thorn, of course, is the Antichrist, and it sounds like the idea behind the prequel is to explore how the son of the Devil came into our world as a creepy little human boy.
Back in 2016, Antonio Campos (Christine) was in negotiations to direct the prequel to the 1976 horror classic, with David Goyer and Phantom Four on board to produce.
