UFC Vegas 10 video: Kevin Croom demolishes Roosevelt Roberts in just 31 seconds in short-notice debut
by Damon MartinApparently, Kevin Croom doesn’t need much notice to make an impact in his UFC debut.
After a wild ride to finally make his first appearance inside the octagon, Croom blasted Roosevelt Roberts with a staggering left hand during an early exchange and then he jumped on a standing guillotine choke to get the tap at just 31 seconds into the opening round.
It was quite the turnaround for Croom, who was signed to the UFC previously and released without a fight, but then was offered another opportunity on just one day’s notice for his appearance on Saturday night.
“Waited 13 years to be here,” Croom said with a smile on his face after the win. “I’m elated.”
While he was a massive 4-to-1 underdog according to the odds makers, Croom looked confident as he started throwing hands with Roberts after the opening round started. As he ducked his head during an exchange, Croom threw a vicious left hand that cracked Roberts and sent him crashing down to the mat.
Croom followed him down but decided to snatch a guillotine choke while securing his arm under Roberts’ chin. As he locked up the submission, Croom pushed Roberts back towards the cage and with nowhere to go to attempt an escape, the tap came just a split second later.
UFC president Dana White was obviously impressed as he took note during a live stream posted to his Twitter account while also promising Croom a bonus for that performance.
The win moves Croom to 4-0 in in his past four appearances but none bigger than finally securing a UFC contract and then needing less than a minute to earn his first victory.
