Christian Atsu is the latest player to be surplus to requirements at Newcastle United this summer.

The Ghana international is available for loan or sale as Steve Bruce tries to trim down his squad following a clutch of arrivals last week.

Atsu joins Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar on the transfer list after being told he can leave if the right deal comes his way.

The former Chelsea man will be disappointed by the decision after making Newcastle his home in recent years, but Bruce said: "The same goes for Saivet. Henri has been around the place since I’ve been here.

"We try to treat him with respect and he trains every day and is a good pro.

"Saivet, Atsu, Muto, Lazaar, Aarons - they need to find a home and try to progress their careers again."

And expanding on his decision to move Atsu on, Bruce - speaking to BBC Newcastle - said: “I like Christian - the same goes for Muto - trains every day, works tirelessly, a good professional - but in a situation where, are they going to play enough?

"There has to come a time when they go and play football."
