In a clear cut indication that the contagion of the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) is at very high and dangerous levels in Uttarakhand, the week ending September 12 saw the highest number of fresh cases of the disease and maximum number of active cases in the state. The week corresponding to the period September 6 to September 12 was the 26th week ever since the first case of the disease was reported in Uttarakhand on March 15 this year.

In this week 6375 fresh cases of the disease were reported. In the previous week 5390 new cases of the disease were reported. At the end of the 26th week, 9781 active cases were reported from the state which is highest for a week. One of the worrying factors is that less number of tests were conducted in the 26th week as compared to the previous two weeks but even then the highest ever number of cases were reported.

In this week 65397 tests were conducted which were less than 25th week when 72711 tests were conducted and even 24th week when 67385 tests were done. The founder of the Social Development for communities foundation (SDCF), Anoop Nautiyal said that the number of deaths in the last two weeks have seen the most number of deaths. In the 26th week 72 deaths were reported as compared to 80 in 25th week. He said that there is an urgent need to work on breaking the chain of contagion in the state.
