English professional footballer Danny Drinkwater who is on the books of Chelsea has reportedly been linked with a move to join former coach Claudio Ranieri at Sampdoria this summer.

Since joining the Stamford Bridge club three years ago, Danny Drinkwater has been an outcast and has been playing away on loan.

The 30-year-old has made just 23 appearances since joining the club for £35million from Leicester City.

According to the latest report on Daily Mail, an intermediary has contacted Sampdoria to ask if they are interested in signing Drinkwater who managed only six appearances last season on loan at both Burnley and Aston Villa.

Drinkwater is not an unknown player for for Caludio Ranieri as they both won the Premier League title together while at Manchester City in 2016.

After returning to Chelsea from Aston Villa, Drinkwater is not expected to have a place in the current Chelsea team as Lampard has signed Thiago Silva from PSG.

''I know my Chelsea move hasn't worked out how anybody would have wanted and I've made mistakes, but it's not as simple as me just not playing football or picking up a wage.

''Money doesn't solve anything. The pay cheque doesn't really help at all, you don't even think about money,'' Drinkwater explained according to Daily Mail.
