Those involved in movements are being targetted: Mamata Banerjee

Apparently hitting out at the BJP-led government at the Centre, Banerjee, who has been one of its most stringent critics, said those involved in "movements (against NPR, NRC) have been targeted (by the ruling party)".

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday criticised the Delhi Police for arresting former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid in connection with the February Delhi riots investigation late on Sunday night.

“I too have seen it [the arrest]. First, they had named Sitaram Yechury in the chargesheet and now they have removed it. But, they have put the names of Yogendra Yadav and others. Those who were in the movements [against NPR and NRC] have been targeted. This is not right in democracy. If someone has done something wrong and you have evidence of it then action should be taken as per law,” Banerjee said.

Without naming the BJP, Banerjee added, “They always think that they are always right and others are wrong. This is not healthy for democracy.”
