Trump to meet with California Gov. Gavin Newsom amid wildfires

by

President Trump will reportedly join California governor Gavin Newsom on Monday for a wildfire briefing near Sacramento.

Trump, who has been critical of Newsom, will meet with the governor in private before touring a former air base that houses firefighting planes, according to Politico.

More than 3 million acres of land in the Golden State have been decimated by wildfires in recent weeks.

The president has blamed the fires on poor forest management, as local officials, including Newsom, have emphasized the impact of climate change on the dry land.

During a recent trip to a devastated forest in Butte County, Newsom said the fires were evidence that a catastrophic change had come.

“If you do not believe in science, I hope you believe observed reality,” the governor said. “The hots are getting a lot hotter and the wets are getting a lot wetter. The science is absolute. The data is self evident.”
