Gardai are investigating after a man's body was found in the River Shannon on Saturday.

The remains were discovered at around 5.30pm on Saturday evening.

The body was removed from the scene to University Hospital Limerick.

A post-mortem is due to take place to determine the cause of death.

Officers said they are currently "investigating all circumstances" following the discovery.

A garda spokesman said: "GardaĆ­ are investigating all circumstances following the discovery of a body in the River Shannon at approximately 5:30pm on Saturday 12th September.
