Jose Mourinho discusses potential Tottenham signing, Graham Roberts prefers Juve star

by

Alexander Sorloth has reportedly emerged as a potential signing for Tottenham Hotspur this summer but Jose Mourinho has played down a move for the big Norwegian – while Graham Roberts has stated he would prefer a Juventus player to be signed.

Sorloth, 24, has sprung onto the shortlist of many European clubs this summer after netting a whopping 33 goals for Turkish side Trabzonspor last summer. The 2019-20 campaign was the first of a two-season loan spell from Crystal Palace.

The Standard claim Trabzonspor will activate the £7million clause in Sorloth’s loan contract, before selling him on. “Sorloth wants to go,” Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu said. “We are meeting with Leipzig and Tottenham and Palace.”

Asked about the comments made by Agaoglu following Tottenham’s 1-0 defeat to Everton, Mourinho stated that it may be true that Spurs are interested. But Spurs legend Roberts is not impressed, and would rather Paulo Dybala.

“I’m not going to discuss Sorloth,” Mourinho said. “If the president of Trabzonspor told that I’m not going to say that it’s not true. I think Sortloth is Trabzonspor player and it’s not for me to speak about. Do we need a striker? Yes.”

TBR’s view – Sorloth a good option, Dybala takes Spurs to top four

For Tottenham, they need to bring in cover for Harry Kane and have needed to for a while. Sorloth would be an ideal addition if they can convince the 6ft 4in Norwegian giant to join, with the knowledge he will be second choice.

Sorloth would give Spurs a plan B and although he has previously flopped in the Premier League, his new-found confidence could be a crucial option for Mourinho. But Dybala would give Spurs new quality, and take them to the top four.
