Colonel Tom Moore told doctors 'not to resuscitate' him after horrific fall

Colonel Tom Moore told Piers Morgan how he asked doctors ‘not to resuscitate’ him after he almost died from a horrific fall.

The 100-year-old – who raised more than £32million for the NHS during the pandemic – joined the ITV host for an interview on Life Stories.

The war veteran said doctors weren’t sure if he would survive the fall, so he asked them to put a ‘do not resuscitate’ sign on his hospital door.

He explained to Piers that he never wanted to depend on anyone or to end up in a nursing home.

‘I have always felt that if somebody is gravely ill and near to death to bring them back for them to die a very unpleasant death, why do that?’ he began.

‘If you have gone, you have gone.

‘I did not want to finish up in an old people’s home without any facility of my own, having to be fed in every way. I would hate ever to be like that.’

During Colonel Tom’s rehabilitation, his son-in-law challenged him to walk 100 laps of his garden for charity.

And not one to turn down a challenge, the war hero succeeded the 100 laps and raised a staggering £32million for NHS workers on the front line.

Famous faces cheered him on at every step, with the Queen even inviting him for a rare meeting earlier this summer.

Life Stories with Piers Morgan continues on Sunday, at 8pm, on ITV.
