Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer self-isolating as family member shows Covid symptoms after in-studio LBC appearance

LABOUR leader Sir Keir Starmer is self-isolating as a family member showed coronavirus symptoms only hours after an in-studio appearance on LBC.

A spokesperson for Sir Keir said he will be self-isolating while waiting for his family member to get a test for the virus.

Sir Keir and his wife, Victoria, have two children together, an 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.

Both of Sir Keir's children have been going to school throughout the pandemic at a local Camden school.

It is understood Sir Keir is not displaying any symptoms of coronavirus.

The Labour leader appeared on LBC this morning and shared a studio with host Nick Ferrari during the phone-in show.

He was on at 9am and just under three hours later, the Labour leader announced he was self isolating.

But Sir Keir did not know about his family member's coronavirus symptoms prior to sitting down with LBC - otherwise he would've been in breach of self-isolation rules.

A spokesperson for Keir Starmer said: “This morning Keir Starmer was advised to self isolate after a member of his household showed possible symptoms of the coronavirus.

"The member of his household has now had a test.

"In line with NHS guidelines, Keir will self-isolate while awaiting the results of the test and further advice from medical professionals.”

LBC have been contacted.

Victoria works for the NHS in occupational health.

NHS workers are able to immediately get a test if they, or a member of their household, shows symptoms of coronavirus.

It means Sir Keir will not be able to attend the debate on the controversial Brexit bill in the House of Commons this afternoon.

Boris Johnson sent Sir Keir and his well wishes, writing on Twitter: "

I’ve spoken with @Keir_Starmer to pass on my best wishes. Sincerely hope he & his family are well."

MPs have sent messages to Sir Keir wishing his family member a speedy recovery.

James Cleverly wrote on Twitter: "It’s horrible when a family member or loved one is ill. All the best to @Keir_Starmer and his family."

Leader of the House of Commons Jacob Rees-Mogg was forced to self-isolate last week after one of his six kids started showing symptoms for coronavirus.

Mr Rees-Mogg wrote on Twitter last Thursday: "One of my children was tested for Covid-19 last weekend after displaying symptoms.

"In accordance with government guidance, the household has been in self-isolation while we await the test result."
