Bollywood’s alleged links with drug cartel reached Parliament on Monday as BJP MP Ravi Kishan raised the issue and spoke about the impact of narcotics on the film industry.

Speaking in Lok Sabha on Day 1 of the Monsoon Session, the BJP MP from Gorakhpur, Ravi Kishan, said the problem of drug trafficking and addiction is on a rise. “Conspiracy is being hatched to destroy country's youth, our neighbouring countries are contributing,” the Bhojpuri star said.

“Smuggling of drugs from Pakistan and China is done every year...it is brought via Punjab and Nepal,” Ravi Kishan alleged.

Alleging that drug addiction is prevalent in the film industry too, Ravi Kishan said, “Several people have been apprehended, NCB is doing very good work. I urge the central government to take strict action, apprehend the culprits soon, give them befitting punishment and bring an end to conspiracy of neighbouring countries.”

Ravi Kishan’s remarks came on the first day of the Monsoon Session which is being held amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The comments came at a time when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is probing a drug case linked to Sushant Singh Rajput. The NCB has already arrested actor Rhea Chakraborty in a drugs case linked to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.

After Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on June 14, his death sparked a massive controversy in the media. The case is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

The top official of NCB had earlier confirmed to India Today that they had prepared a list of 25 top Bollywood celebrities who were related to drug cartels in the industry.

These names were reportedly given by Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty, who is also under arrest.

The NCB is likely to issue summons to these Bollywood celebrities. The list has been sent to top officials of the NCB, sources had said.
