Grey’s Anatomy star Sarah Drew has shared a Japril throwback to honour the cast and crew who are starting up production on season 17.

The likes of Owen Hunt star Kevin McKidd, Meredith Grey actress Ellen Pompeo and producer Debbie Allen have all returned to set this week following the coronavirus pandemic.

And despite leaving the series in season 14, the April Kepner star has marked the momentous week with a picture of herself and Jesse Williams – who played her onscreen husband Jackson Avery.

‘In honour of my pals over at Grey’s starting back up this past week, here’s a fun throw back to #japrilthemovie,’ she wrote alongside the snap of the duo on set.

‘Our amazing director for that episode, #robcorn sent this photo to us over the weekend. This episode will go down as one of my all-time favourite television experiences,’ she pressed.

‘Every one of those nine days on set was joyous.’

The episode titled Unbreak My Heart featured in season 12, and looked back on Jackson and April’s troubled relationship.

At the end of the hour-long instalment, the pair sign off their divorce papers before April tells her bestie Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) that she is pregnant.

‘The episode was so brilliantly written (by #elizabethklaviter) and directed (by #robcorn) and we felt like we were in this magical little bubble making our own movie,’ Sarah continued in her post.

‘This pic is from the rehearsal of that epic 15-page scene that ended with us pelting each other with fortune cookies. We spent a whole day (12-13 hours) shooting that one scene together.’

‘It felt like we were performing a one-act play and it was really hard work but a profoundly fulfilling experience,’ she stated before wrapping up the throwback, adding: ‘Sending love to all the #japril fans out there and of course, to my co-captain @ijessewilliams.’

Right on cue, fans took to the comments where they pined over the couple and begged the star to make her return.

‘We miss you Sarah,’ one wrote while another said: ‘What trigger, I’ll never get over japril.’

Someone else added: ‘The worst decision they’ve ever made on the show was to let go of you and end #japril. I haven’t watched the show since then.’

And it seems others felt the same: ‘Man, I wish #japril would’ve worked out.’
