Well-known Paisley music school expands to take over dream venue in town
Diane Mirchell has always dreamed of taking over the entire building of Brick Lane Studios.
by Carla Talbot, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/carla-talbot/The owner of a well-known Paisley music school has embarked on an exciting new venture to help make her dreams come true.
Diane Mitchell, who has taught music to young people in Paisley for more than 25 years, has taken over the entire business at Brick Lane Studios.
The exciting development will now see Diane run all of her music classes from the base as well as operating the successful rehearsing and recording studio.
The big move has always been a dream for Diane, who will now run both the Diane Mitchell Music School alongside Brick Lane Studios Scotland.
The studios have welcomed a number of talented musicians over the years, and when the opportunity was presented to Diane to take over the business she says she couldn’t turn it down.
When the coronavirus pandemic shut down businesses all over the country, she feared she would have to close her long-standing music school for good.
But now she feels lucky to have been given this exciting new opportunity.
She said: “This is something I have always wanted to do but I have never quite had the chance to go for it.
“When I was told that the studios would be available, I just thought I had to go for it as I knew I would regret it if I missed my chance.
“It is not how I imagined things going for me as I was hit hard financially with the lockdown and I really worried that I wouldn’t be able to go on.
“Thankfully, I was able to get some support and continue classes remotely which helped make this possible.”
Diane, who is also a talented musician, has now transformed the space and has hired a team of staff to help her run her new business.
She is now looking forward to welcoming back her young music students as well as getting involved in the business of helping professional musicians record their work.
She also hopes to start some community outreach work in Paisley once she is up and running.
She explained: “I’m looking forward to having all the classes now under one roof which will be fantastic as it means we have the one base for everything here.
“We will have the studios and I hope to be able to do some work in the community too, so we will have a three-pronged approach to make it a success.
“I’m apprehensive about the future but looking forward to what is to come.”
The Diane Mitchell Music School is still taking new pupils.
