Kia Motors India will launch the Sonet in the country on September 18, 2020. One of the major competitors of the Kia Sonet will be the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Not only has the Vitara Brezza been the dominant force in the compact SUV segment, but it can even be credited with revolutionising that particular space. Just a glance at the sales numbers of the Vitara Brezza since its introduction in India in March 2016 is sufficient to validate its authority. But from our personal experience, we can say that the Sonet has all the credentials to be the next big thing in the sub-4m SUV arena.

We are expecting a fierce battle between the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the months to come. Both have their own USPs. While one may argue that the Sonet is ahead in terms of features, it can't be denied that people have developed a never-ending trust in the Vitara Brezza as it is a wholesome package. The Vitara Brezza is diligently priced, has a bunch of comfort creatures and the after-sales service is decent as well. But how do these two compact SUVs fare against each other in terms of technical specifications? Let us find out.

The Kia Sonet gets three engine options -- Smartstream 1.2-litre petrol, Smartstream 1.0-litre turbo-GDi petrol and 1.5-litre CRDi diesel. There are five transmission options -- 5-speed MT, 6-speed MT, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed AT and 7-speed DCT. In comparison, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza comes with a sole motor -- K15B 1.5-litre petrol -- and a couple of transmission choices -- 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT.

In terms of dimensions, the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza are equal in length at 3,995mm and width at 1,790mm. However, the Sonet is a tad bit higher at 1,642mm, compared to 1,640mm of the Vitara Brezza. The wheelbase is similar at 2,500mm. The Vitara Brezza has a bigger fuel tank at 48 litres, whereas the Sonet gets a 45-litre fuel tank.
