Xbox Series X is Microsoft's new flagship, as its most powerful console with over 12TF GPU performance and a custom SSD. It boasts up to 4K resolution and 120 FPS, full backward compatibility across four generations, and ray-tracing support.

Can Xbox Series X play 4K Blu-ray?

Microsoft already has consoles on the market that can play 4K Blu-ray discs, the Xbox One X, and Xbox One S. The Xbox One X and Xbox One S both include Ultra HD Blu-ray players, which can read 100GB Blu-ray discs used to store 4K content. Credible rumors reported by Windows Central indicated that Microsoft is also working on a lower-end next-generation console, codenamed Lockhart, which will complement the Xbox Series X, forming a dual-pronged approach of sorts. These reports were proven true with the announcement of the Xbox Series S. Xbox Series S does not have a disk drive and so it is unable to play 4K Blu-ray discs.

4K digital media is supported on the Xbox Series S though. As an all-digital next-generation gaming console, the Xbox Series S is capable of playing all digital Xbox Series X games.

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are both set to release on November 10, 2020, with preorders open on September 22. The Xbox Series X costs $499, while the Xbox Series S costs $299.
