HKFP Lens: Police arrest 289 as Hongkongers demonstrate against postponed election and security law

A protest against the postponed elections in Hong Kong ended in 289 arrests on Sunday. The legislative polls should have taken place on the same day, but were delayed by a year with the authorities citing Covid-19 risks. 270 of those arrested were suspected of taking part in an unlawful assembly in the Yau Tsim Mong district. Pepper spray and pepper balls were deployed by the police whilst plain-clothed police officers were filmed tackling protesters to the ground.
