Trial date set for former Defence Forces member Lisa Smith

by

Lisa Smith will go on trial in 2022.

A trial date has been set for the former member of the Defence Forces, who is facing terrorism charges.

Ms Smith is accused of membership of the Islamic terrorist group, ISIS, between October 28th, 2015 and December 1st, 2019.

She’s also accused of financing terrorism by sending €800 in assistance, via a Western Union money transfer, to a named man on May 6th, 2015.

The 38-year-old from Dundalk in Co Louth, who denies the charges, appeared in court this morning where her trial was set for January 11th 2022.

It will take 12 weeks and take place before the non-jury Special Criminal Court.

Ms Smith, who is on bail, had been signing on at a Garda station twice a day, and that has now been reduced to once a day.
