Report: West Ham considering further James Tarkowski bid after opening day nightmare
by Lee ConnorWest Ham United are said to be considering making another bid for Burnley defender, James Tarkowski, after their nightmare home start against Newcastle United.
The Hammers lost 2-0 to Steve Bruce’s men and, in truth, it could have been even more in what was a dismal display from David Moyes’ outfit.
And according to the Evening Standard, the Hammers are now considering whether to return with more money for Tarkowski, despite already seeing a number of approaches rejected by the Clarets.
The move comes just days after David Moyes conceded the club would be unable to pay the supposed £50m askin-price for Tarkowski, who has developed into one of the Premier League’s finest central defenders.
West Ham are thought to have had bids in the region of £25m and £30m turned down by Burnley. Tarkowski, who has two caps for England, is a key man for Sean Dyche and he is ensuring the club digs its heels in over their star man.
A defender is needed but no need to panic just yet – TBR View
The signing of Tarkowski would be a good one but there’s no need for mass panic just because one result has gone wrong.
Yes, the Hammers were poor in defence but does that really justify going out into the market and spending around £40m on a new defender who, as yet, has not proven himself any higher than a mid-table PL team.
This would stink of a panic buy if the Hammers suddenly put the money up for Tarkowski. As good as he is, the problems the club faces are probably deeper rooted than just adding one central defender.
