A police investigation is underway

Up to 300 vehicles were involved in a 'meet' in Bulwell - one day before new coronavirus rules were introduced allowing a maximum of six people to meet up.

Officers were called to the gathering at around 7.20pm on Sunday (September 13) to a report of people gathering at the Blenheim Industrial Estate.

Officers attended and took footage so that the incident can be investigated and appropriate action taken.

Neighbourhood Inspector Christine Busuttil said: “We know this is an issue which matters to our community and we have done a lot of proactive work around it in response to that feedback.

“We’ve created Operation Resilient, which will be ongoing activity to tackle antisocial behaviour related to vehicles in the Bulwell, Top Valley and Bestwood areas. This is one of our priorities and something we’ll continue to focus on.

“Last weekend an arrest was made, two traffic offence reports were issued, a moped was seized and a number of people were spoken to about antisocial behaviour with vehicles in this area – all as part of this ongoing operation.

“It’s disappointing to see that people are still engaging in this antisocial behaviour and putting others at risk by ignoring the coronavirus guidelines.

"Our investigation into this incident is underway, including working through the footage taken by officers to identify anyone who was acting illegally.

“Anyone we do identify can expect a visit from us in due course.”

However, Councillor Maria Joannou, who represents Bulwell for Labour on Nottingham City Council, said no issues had been reported to her.

"I have not heard anything, nobody has phone me up and complained," she said.

From Monday (September 14), a maximum of six people will now be able to gather together, to lower the number of people meeting in and outdoors.

The rule applies across England and replaces the existing ban on participating in gatherings of more than 30 and the current guidance on allowing two households to meet indoors.

Aside from limited exemptions including work and education, police will be able to disperse gatherings of more than six people and issue fines ranging from £100 to £3,200.

Anyone with information about the meet is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 628, of September 13.

Meanwhile, a student has tested positive for coronavirus at another Nottinghamshire school - and a city academy is closed for year six pupils after people from the same bubble displayed potential coronavirus symptoms.

It comes after a student was fined £10,000 for throwing a 50-person house party.
