Apple Has Ordered Samsung Screens To Make Foldable iPhones, Leak Suggests

Apple seems to be taking first steps to make foldable iPhones a reality, as a renowned Android leaker has shared that the company might have just ordered OLED display samples from Samsung to prototype flexible devices.
In a post published on Chinese social network Weibo, leaker IceUniverse purported, “Apple asked Samsung Display to provide a large sample of foldable phone screens,” adding that the Cupertino giant has also requested for “exclusive supply” for a year.
The rumor mill has been speculating on a foldable iPhone for years. However, details about the design are limited.
Jon Prosser, a historically reliable product leaker, mentioned back in June that the foldable iPhone prototype “isn’t really a foldable,” but is really made up of two display panels connected to a hinge.
He also described its design to resemble models from the iPhone 11 lineup, in that it features “round, stainless steel edges” as well. However, it doesn’t have a notch.

In February, Apple registered for a patent for “electronic devices with flexible displays and hinges” that come without unsightly creases, a problem that existing bendable smartphones face. The document discusses leaving a space at the area where the gadget is supposed to fold.
Apple’s partnership with Samsung isn’t new. The South Korean tech leader has been supplying the iPhone maker with OLED screens since production for 2017’s iPhone X.
