Video: Trump vows to watch UFC Vegas 11 to support Colby Covington — ‘I’m a big fan’
by Jesse HollandDonald Trump held an indoor rally last night in Henderson, Nevada, to campaign for his re-election later this year in a tight presidential race against Democratic nominee Joe Biden. Among the attendees in the controversial gathering were UFC President Dana White, top-ranked welterweight contender Colby Covington, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo, interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje, and Gaethje’s longtime manager Ali Abdelaziz.
During his speech, Trump acknowledged his “genius” attendees and even went so far as to promise to watch Covington compete against welterweight nemesis and former division champion Tyron Woodley in the UFC Vegas 11 main event this Sat. night (Sept. 19, 2020) inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, a five-round affair that could leave “Chaos” in line for another crack at the 170-pound crown.
“I’m going to be watching Colby, I’m a big fan of Colby,” Trump said. “He is a winner, He is a champ and it’s going to be a great evening and a great fight. I wish him the best of luck. I’ve just seen him a lot and he is tough. Good luck champ.”
Covington has been a longtime supporter of Trump and even went to the White House to pose with the New York real estate mogul after capturing the interim title back in 2018. Unfortunately for “Chaos,” he was unable to unify the belts and lost by way of fifth-round technical knockout when he battled Kamaru Usman at UFC 245 last December.
It should also be noted that Usman is managed by Abdelaziz, who once brawled with Covington at a Las Vegas buffet, so I’m sure it was awkward for them to share some of the same space in last night’s rally. Having White in the house probably helped, since both of their careers depend on the power of his pen.
