Coronavirus latest updates: India's COVID-19 tally crosses 48 lakh-mark, records 92,071 new cases
by FPJ Web DeskThe coronavirus tally in India on Monday crossed the 48 lakh-mark with 92,071 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
The total coronavirus cases mounted to 48,46,428, while the death toll climbed to 79,722 with 1,136 people succumbing to the infection in a span of 24 hours. Of the 48,46,428 infections, 9,86,598 are active cases, while 37,80,108 patients have been discharged.
India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23 and it went past 40 lakh on September 5. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 5,72,39,428 samples have been tested up to September 13 with 9,78,500 samples being tested on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 28.8 million, while the deaths have increased to over 922,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
As of Monday morning, the total number of cases stood at 28,891,676 and the fatalities rose to 922,441, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update. The US accounted for the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 6,519,121 and 194,041 respectively, according to the CSSE.
India is currently in the second place in terms of cases at 48,46,428, while the country's death toll stood at 79,722. In terms of cases, Brazil ranks third (4,330,455), and is followed by Russia (1,059,024), Peru (722,832), Colombia (708,964), Mexico (668,381), South Africa (649,793), Spain (566,326), Argentina (555,537), Chile (434,748), France (402,893), Iran (402,029), the UK (370,928).
