BSP leader opens fire at daughter, her husband

Marrying one of her cousin without the consent of her family proved fatal for a couple when the girl’s father, a senior leader of Bahujan Samaj Party in Uttarakhand, and her brother opened fire at her and her husband at their residence in Saidnagar area of Rampur district on Saturday night.

Luckily, the youth and the girl sustained gunshot injuries on their hands and survived the attempt on their lives.

Both were admitted to the medical college hospital in Moradabad and the police extended them security to avert any further attack on them.

A case was registered in this regard and efforts were on to arrest the BSP leader and his son.

Giving information about the incident, Arun Kumar, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Rampur, said, “In Saidnagar area, a man named Prashant Kumar married one Kamini Gautam hailing from Kashipur in Uttarakhand in early September. The girl’s family was unhappy with the marriage. As per the preliminary information, the father of the girl caused upper arm injuries to both the girl and the boy. The doctor referred them to a higher medical centre from the district hospital.”

He added that an FIR was being registered and police would investigate the case further.

According to the victim Kamini Gautam, her father, Vinod Kumar Gautam shot at her and her husband.

“My father Vinod Kumar Gautam, who lives in Kashipur, Uttarakhand, came to our home in Saidnagar and shot at me and my husband, Prashant Kumar,” she said.

A relative of the family told media persons that the married couple were maternal cousins and had married without the permission of the girl’s family.

“They are maternal cousins and have married without the consent of the girl’s family. Her father, along with her brother came to their house in Saidnagar and the father shot at the married couple,” the relative added.

Vinod Kumar Gautam was senior BSP leader and was party’s former district president of Kashipur.

In Rae Bareli, the body of a teenaged girl was recovered in a canal in Bachupur Kachhawa area of Bachhrawan in the wee hours of Sunday.

The girl seems to be less than 20-year-old. She was wearing a pink salwar and sky colour top and also had mehndi on both her hands along with bangles.

The body was sent for post-mortem and efforts were made to maintain her identity.

Meanwhile in the suspected case of rape and murder in Fatehpur, in which a semi-burnt nude body of an unknown girl was recovered on Saturday morning, the cops managed to nab her killer but he slipped from their clutches and committed suicide.

With the help of a mobile found near the body, the cops identified the girl as Priya (20), a resident of the same area.

The probe showed that she was having an affair with one Dhirendra aka Ramu Raidas but the family settled her marriage somewhere else. Agitated with this, Ramu called her on Friday night for talk and when she came, he raped her and later strangulated her to death. To conceal the crime, he dumped the body at a secluded place and also threw acid to burn the body.

The cops said that they raided Ramu’s house on Saturday night but he slipped out and ran towards railway track and jumped before a train and committed suicide.

However, the villagers said that the police nabbed Ramu and during interrogations he confessed of raping and killing he girl after which he escaped and committed suicide.
