Coronavirus Scotland: 70 new cases confirmed as fresh lockdown restrictions take effect
The Scottish Government says today's figure may not represent all of the new positive tests recorded.
by Colin Paterson, https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/authors/colin-paterson/A further 70 coronavirus cases have been detected in Scotland as fresh lockdown restrictions take effect today.
The main change the public need to be aware of surrounds household gatherings.
A maximum of six people from two households can meet, both indoors and outdoors, although children under the age of 12 do not count as part of that figure.
However, Lanarkshire became the latest region in west-central Scotland which seen a ban on household gatherings of any sort following concerns over the rise in cases.
The Scottish Government published its latest sets of figures this afternoon as part of the daily COVID-19 update to the nation.
But today's confirmation of new positive tests may not be the full picture due to "late provision of test data". Any additional cases will be reported in the coming days, it has been announced.
No new deaths in the last 24 hours means Scotland's death toll remains at 2,499.
However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 4,231 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, September 6 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate

Symptoms of coronavirus...
The symptoms of coronavirus are:
- a cough
- a high temperature
- shortness of breath
- a loss of taste and smell
But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.
The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu.
How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus...
- wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- always wash your hands when you get home or into work
- use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- put used tissues in the bin straight away and wash your hands afterwards
- try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
- do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
If you think you may have the coronavirus, do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. Call 111 if you need to speak to someone.
