Saudi Arabia records 37 new coronavirus deaths, 607 cases

JEDDAH: The number of deaths in Saudi Arabia resulting from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has risen again, after a week of lower figures.

An additional 37 fatalities were reported on Monday, which is in the mid-range for death figures. Last week, the number of deaths each day was in the mid-20s. The total number of deaths in the Kingdom now stands at 4,305.

A further 607 confirmed cases were identified, raising the total in the country to 326,258. Makkah had the highest number of new cases at 73, with 65 reported in Jeddah, 46 in Hofuf, 42 in Riyadh, and 38 in Madinah.

There are 18,023 active cases and 1,293 patients are being treated in critical care units. A further 1,060 recoveries were recorded on Sunday, raising the total number to 303,930, and the recovery rate in the Kingdom now stands at 93.1 percent. The location with the highest number of recoveries was Makkah, with 313, followed by Madinah with 64, and Riyadh with 61. An additional 44,025 polymerase chain reaction tests were carried out, raising the total number of coronavirus tests conducted in Saudi Arabia to more than 5.76 million.

In a message posted on Twitter, the Saudi Health Ministry advised people to seek medical attention at specialist Tatamman clinics as soon as they notice any possible symptoms of COVID-19.

The ministry also urged older people, who are particularly vulnerable to the more severe effects of the virus, to take precautionary measures to ensure they remain as safe as possible if they have to leave their homes for unavoidable reasons.

These include traveling with a companion and packing an additional cloth face mask, alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and any medicine they need to take regularly, and not to share any items with other people.
