Gujarat reports 1,326 new cases

State tested 68,828 samples in 24 hours, which is the lowest in 13 days of September; Surat reports 281 cases, Ahmedabad 172, Rajkot 151, Vadodara 124, Jamnagar 120; 11 new microcontainment areas identifi ed in city

Aday after reporting its highest single-day jump, Gujarat on Sunday reported 1,326 new Covid-19 cases. Meanwhile, the number of tests conducted in 24 hours, 68,828, was the lowest in September so far. The overall case tally now stands at 1,13,662. With 15 more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll rose to 3,213 The maximum cases, 281, were reported in Surat, followed by 172 in Ahmedabad, 151 in Rajkot and 124 in Vadodara and 120 in Jamnagar. There were 69 cases in Bhavnagar, 46 new cases in Gandhinagar, and 36 in Junagadh. Apart from major districts, Mehsana reported 32 cases, there were 30 in the Panchmahals, 28 in Kutch, 25 in Amreli, 21 in Bharuch, 19 in Surendranagar and 18 in Banaskantha. There were 17 cases in Dahod, 15 in Morbi, 14 in Gir-Somnath, 13 in Sabarkantha, 11 each in Kheda and Patan, and 10 in Anand. Other districts reported cases in single digits. Of the 15 deaths in the state on Sunday, six were in Surat, 4 in Ahmedabad, 2 in Vadodara and one each in Bharuch, Bhavnagar and Rajkot. Of the 16,439 active cases reported in Gujarat on Sunday, 87 were on ventilator support while 16,352 patients were in stable medical condition. There were 1,205 patients discharged from hospitals across Gujarat on Sunday, taking the discharge tally to 94,010 till date.

33,725 cases of Covid in Ahmedabad

The Covid-19 tally in Ahmedabad district rose to 33,725 on Sunday with addition of 172 new cases. With four more patients succumbing to the infection, the toll went up to 1,755. A total of 156 patients--135 from the city and 21 from rural areas--were discharged after treatment in the day, raising the count of recoveries in the district to 27,713, the department said in a release.

Of the 172 new cases, 151 were reported from Ahmedabad city while rural areas added 21 patients. In its health bulletin, the civic body said Ahmedabad has 3,716 active cases.

Meanwhile, as part of its ongoing drive to test incoming passengers at railway stations, AMC tested 2,188 passengers on Sunday. Of these, 41 were found to be infected with coronavirus.

A’bad gets 11 new microcontainment areas

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation identified 11 new microcontainment areas and removed 14 from the existing list. Of the new ones, seven are in western Ahmedabad. These include two in Chandlodia and one in Thaltej in the north-west zone and two in Naranpura and one each in Sabarmati, Stadium area and Viratnagar in the west zone. The total number of microcontainment areas in the city now stands at 381.

Diamond industry helps families of workers

The Diamond Industry Career Foundation (DICF) has come up with a plan to provide financial help to the families of the deceased. Individuals associated with this Foundation decided to help the families of the people who have died due to Covid-19 or by suicide. A notification was passed and the families of the deceased were requested to register themselves on the online portal and financial aid of Rs 10,000 to 35,000 is being provided to such families.
