K’jhar woman, daughter killed by miscreants

A woman and her daughter were murdered in their house by unidentified miscreants at Shankarpur village under the Champua police station in Keonjhar district on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Saraswati Munda and her seven-year-old daughter.  The assailants barged into the house by breaking the door when Saraswati, her daughter and five-year-old son were sleeping.

They killed the mother-daughter duo but left the son unharmed. sources said. Police have sent the bodies for postmortem and initiated an investigation.

Sources said the woman’s husband is currently in jail in connection with a murder case.In another incident, a woman was brutally killed  by miscreants on rooftop of her house at Malaspadar village under the Bhanjanagar police station of Ganjam district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Jyotshna Rani Sahoo, wife of one Prashant Kumar Sahoo of Malaspadar village.

Police recovered the body and initiated probe into the murder case. According to reports, some miscreants attacked the woman with sharp weapons while she was sitting on rooftop of her house. Hearing screams of the victim, family members rushed to the place but the culprits escaped from the spot by jumping off the roof.

However, the motive behind the crime was yet to be ascertained. On receiving information, the Bhanjanagar police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.
