Are you an audiophile? Or did you just rediscover your love for music recently? Regardless if it’s part of your routine or because a newcomer in the music scene started to impress you, music will always find a place in people’s lives.

And with the ongoing pandemic, people run to music to lift their spirits. But you don’t need an expensive sound system to enjoy great music. You can enjoy your favorite tunes using your mobile devices.

Though the sound quality may not be the same, you can still improve it by tweaking your phone’s EQ setting.

But what exactly are the benefits of adjusting the EQ settings of your device? What are the steps to achieving optimal EQ balance?

Continue reading below as we tackle the importance of the EQ settings and how to adjust them properly.

Benefits of Tweaking your Phone’s EQ Setting

Why is the EQ or equalizer setting of your device important? Why is it something that you shouldn’t neglect as a music lover? These are questions that only the many benefits of tweaking the EQ settings can answer.

Firstly, you can adjust the sound frequencies of your music to your liking. You can increase the bass if you want something more pulsating. Furthermore, you can boost the treble to highlight sharp guitar riffs during adlib.

And if you wish for the vocal to stand out, there is also an option to do so.

Secondly, it is a simple way of expressing your artistry to a certain extent. Though the music may not come from you, your way of mixing the EQ setting leaves an imprint of your taste in sounds.

Adjusting EQ Settings on iOS

Now let us discuss how you perform these adjustments with your device’s EQ settings. If you’re using an iOS, accessing the EQ settings is quite easy.

First, let’s discuss how you can access the EQ presets. Go to “Settings” and hit “Music.” Tap “EQ” then select a preset that you want. There, you can choose “Vocal Booster” or “Small Speakers.”

You can also select “Bass Booster” or “Acoustic.” There are also preset selections according to the type of music you’re playing. These options include “Hip Hop,” “Jazz,” “Rock,” and “Electronic.”

Another impressive feature of the iOS EQ settings is that it allows you to tweak the equalizer per song. This gives you a more granular approach to adjusting the sound frequencies for every song on your playlist.

This means you can have different settings for every song even if they belong to the same genre.

To access this feature, go to your iTunes and head on to “Window” then hit “Equalizer.” This will open a panel showing the different types of frequencies that you can adjust.

To proceed with the adjustments, pick a song that you want and hit Command-I. This will open the “Get Info” Window. From there, select the “Options” tab and start tweaking the settings.

Regardless if you’re on Airpods or not, tweaking the EQ settings will improve your listening experience. And in case you’re not sure how to restart Airpods – setapp‌ has you covered.

Using iOS EQ Apps

Alternatively, there are third-party apps you can download to broaden your EQ settings. For starters, there is the HF Player by Onkyo. The app offers touch control features to your customized equalizer settings.

Pick a song from your Music Library then hit the “Equalizer” button. From there, you can adjust the settings with ease.

Another interesting app is Audio Xciter by Aphex. Unlike HF Player, this app lets you control Mix, Harmonics, and Tune settings. The great thing about this app is it maintains the balance across all levels.

In turn, it gives you a result that is still very close to the original.

Adjusting EQ Settings on Android

In case you’re an Android user, you can also adjust your EQ settings. To do so, Open “Settings” then go to “Sound & Notification.” From there, tap “Audio Effects” which you will see at the top of the screen.

Check the “Audio Effects” switch and make sure it is on. Now, you can use your fingers to adjust the five levels to your liking.

Alternatively, you can use one of the pre-set settings by tapping the “Equalizer” drop-down menu.

If ever you decide to connect your Android phone to some wire speakers, you need to hit the “Wired Stereo” tab then select “Effects Profile” or a “Surround” setting.

The Best EQ Apps for Android

Android also has its fair share of top-notch EQ apps. First, there is Neutralizer, which takes the cudgels as far as adjusting goes. Instead of giving you settings to adjust, it is the app that will adjust itself according to your listening preferences.

Another interesting app is Music Volume EQ. It is one of the most popular EQ apps for Android because it simply does its work consistently. It gives you nine EQ presets, as well as five standard band EQ.

And if you love using headphones, there is the Wavelet app. Though the app is relatively new, it doesn’t fall short in terms of performance. Apart from giving you a 9-band equalizer with presets, it has an auto-EQ feature.

This feature allows you to automatically tweak the EQ of more than 2,400 different types of headphones.

When Using Spotify

Last but not least, you can change your EQ settings while listening to Spotify. But how can you do so if Spotify doesn’t come with any EQ features? There is a workaround that lets you go to your phone’s audio settings without leaving the Spotify app.

To do this, launch your Spotify and tap the gear icon. You will find this at the top-right corner of the screen. From there, hit “Menu” then look for the “Equalizer” option below.

Accept the warning message concerning the change in volume. Look for the equalizer and hit the toggle switch on.

Now, you can adjust the EQ settings while listening to your favorite tunes on Spotify.
