Tottenham signing Alexander Sorloth would be risky business for more than one reason – TBR View

Tottenham are being linked with a move for Crystal Palace striker Alexander Sorloth, who is currently enjoying a fine two-year loan spell in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

The big forward was brilliant last season. He smashed in 33 goals in all competitions, per Transfermarkt, as he looked a completely different player to the one we had seen struggle in the Premier League prior.

And that form has seen a number of clubs express an interest this summer. The 24-year-old is now, seemingly, a wanted man and along with the likes of RB Leipzig, Spurs are being touted as potential buyers of Sorloth.

But despite the obvious need and, by his own admission, Jose Mourinho’s needs for a new striker, is Sorloth really the man who Spurs should be splashing the cash on? We aren’t so sure and believe there could be better fits out there.

Money will be big and one good season doesn’t make a world-class talent

According to the Daily Mail, Palace have already rejected a bid in the region of £20m for Sorloth this summer. That stance suggests that the Eagles are not willing to part ways with him on the cheap.

And this is where it could put and probably should put Spurs off. If Palace are looking at between £25-30m for what will, ultimately, be a back-up striker behind Harry Kane, then surely that money can be better spent elsewhere?

There is no taking away from Sortloth’s exploits last season. He was lethal in front of goal and is, quite rightly, attracting attention.

But there are other options out there for Spurs. Troy Deeney is one name who could do the job. He could arrive on a free and save the club a hefty chunk of change in the market.

Josh King of Bournemouth is another. He’s been touted at around half the price of Sorloth, and is proven at PL level.

All in all, Sorloth would be a risky signing for Spurs. Yes, he’s had an excellent year but so do a lot of players. And with a certain Gareth Bale on the market, Mourinho might be best putting his funds towards that deal.
