Corona Glooms Parliament Sessions: Over 25 MPs Tests Positive..!
While the list of high profile politicians kept increasing with each positive day, the deadly viral infection gloomed the monsoon sessions of Parliament commenced which took off on Monday.
The results of mandatory screening conducted on September 12th before the session gave out shocking results with over 56 people testing positive including MPs of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Among the 25 infected Lok Sabha MPs, the BJP has a maximum number, 12 while the YSR Congress has two MPs, the Shiv Sena, DMK and RLP one each.
The infected include Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria, Meenakshi Lekhi, Sukanata Majumdar, Anant Kumar Hegde, Goddeti Madhavi, Pratap Rao Jadav, Janardan Singh Sigriwal and Bidyut Baran Mahato.
Pradan Baruah, N Reddeppa, Selvam G, Pratap Rao Patil, Ram Shankar Katheria, Parvesh Sahib Singh, Satya Pal Singh and Rodmal Nagar have also tested positive for Covid-19. It can be noted that 200 of the 785 MPs are above the age of 65 years and are among the population vulnerable to coronavirus.
The session was called to be held with large-scale safety protocols in place that include staggered seating of MPs in chambers of both Houses to maintain physical distancing. For the first time, the MPs registered their attendance using the ‘Attendance Register’ App to avoid human contact.
