Daily wager’s daughter from Mancherial set to pursue PGDBM in IIT-Madras

Mancherial: Chanda Komala, daughter of a daily wage earner, has excelled in the Common Admission Test (CAT)-2019 results of which were announced recently. She has gained admission into post graduate diploma in business management at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Madras. She was felicitated by the alumni of Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions, Swaeros, at her native place on Sunday.

A native of remote Lingadharigudem in Thandur mandal, Komala was presented a shawl and a book by Teegala Srinivas, state committee member of Swaeros and Karre Rajasekhar, the body’s vice president for north zone. She thanked the members and her teachers for extending support to her in excelling in the test.

Srinivas, congratulating the girl, said she had brought recognition to her parents and the district by cracking the exam and securing a seat for the PGDBM course in the premier institution. He told other students to draw inspiration from her. He assured Komala of all support to Komala, requested her to serve the community in future.

Hailing from a tribal community, Komala’s father Motiram is a daily wage labourer. She pursued Bachelor of Arts from a social welfare residential degree college of Mancherial district headquarters. She registered 85 GPA in her degree, 91.1 per cent in Intermediate and 88 GPA in Class X.

Sharing her experience, she said poverty should not be seen as a deterrent to perform well in academics. She stated that Dr R S Praveen Kumar, secretary of social welfare educational institutions society, was her role model. “I would like to become an entrepreneur and will strive for empowerment of rural parts in future,” she said, and expressed her gratitude to her mentor Jadi Srinivas.
