Paris Saint-Germain’s nightmare start to the season continued as star player Neymar was sent off in the final minute of their 1-0 defeat to Marseille.

The Brazilian was one of five players to see red as a melee in the final sixty seconds of the game in Paris descended into chaos between the two sides.

PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes was sent off for hitting out at Darío Benedetto, which sparked a scuffle between the two teams. After facing up to one another, full-back Layvin Kurzawa saw red after repeatedly hitting Jordan Amavi, who was also given his marching orders for kicking the Frenchman.

However, after the four players involved in the brawl were all sent off, the referee conducted a var review to see if there was any further incidence and Neymar was shown red after highlights showed he hit Marseille ace Álvaro González in the back of the head.

The former Barcelona striker sarcastically applauded the referee as he left the field and he was then seen telling the assistant referee that he was racially abused.

According to BT Sport, the Brazilian claimed that he was on the receiving end of a racist comment and ‘that’s why I did it’.

Every incident will be reviewed but Neymar’s claim that he was racially abused is sure to take the headlines and Ligue 1 will likely need to conduct a full review into the incident.

The defeat means PSG are in the relegation zone after two matches played of their title defence.

Thomas Tuchel’s side were beaten by Lens on the opening weekend of the season, meaning they’re without a single point.
