Man held for drink driving after 'crashing into a lamp post'

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he crashed into a lamp post, police said.

Emergency services were called to Sheil Road, Kensington, on Sunday morning at about 2.55am.

A spokesman for the force said officers attempted to stop an Audi, but the car made off "at speed" and crashed into a lamp post.

Dramatic pictures from the scene showed a trail of destruction as debris was left outside a house, with the lamp post completely knocked down.

The force said the driver, a 23-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent, was taken to hospital for a minor head wound.

He remains under investigation as he was given treatment at the hospital.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, officers added.

A spokesman for the police said: "He was taken to hospital for treatment of a minor head wound and remains under investigation.
