Antiques Roadshow expert tears up recalling family's Blitz ordeal
by Abbie BrayAn Antiques Roadshow expert struggled to hold back the tears after he recalled his family’s near-death experience during the Blitz.
Ahead of tonight’s episode, presenter Fiona Bruce explained to viewers that there would be no valuations due to the personal nature of the items on the show.
Instead, guests on the show shared their own stories from the Biggin Hill airfield which looked back at the Battle of Britain and the Blitz.
Expert Mark Smith spoke about his own upbringing and how his dad and uncle almost died during the Blitz.
Speaking to Fiona about the impact it had on him, Mark got rather emotional as he talked through the items he had.
‘It certainly did,’ he began.
‘They were right there on the East End where the raids were going to take place – that’s him in the photo there.’
Following the programme, viewers couldn’t help but praise TV bosses for airing such a ‘poignant’ episode.
One tweeted: ‘A great watch this evening.’
Another commented: ‘Tonight’s Battle of Britain episode is a great watch amazing stories.’
While one added: ‘Some amazing, and very moving, tales about incredibly brave people on Antiques Roadshow tonight, a worthy watch.’
Antiques Roadshow returns next Sunday at 7pm on BBC One.
