Report: Everton set to table offer for right-back, Newcastle and Wolves also interested

by

Caricol has claimed that Everton are set to table an offer for Atletico Madrid right-back Santiago Arias with the Colombian expected to leave Diego Simeone’s side – but the Toffees could face competition from Newcastle and Wolves.

Arias, 28, only joined Atletico from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2018 and has since managed 51 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit. But Kieran Trippier’s arrival last summer has limited his game time.

Now, the 53-time Colombia international is expected to depart Atleti this summer and a move to the Premier League seems inevitable. The report, published on the weekend, claimed Everton were hours away from tabling an offer.

But Newcastle and Wolves are also interested and may rival Everton in pursuit of Arias – who still has three years left on his current Atleti contract which Spanish newspaper Marca claim has a release clause worth £74million.

TBR’s view – Which club needs Arias most?

Everton have waved goodbye to Djibril Sidibe after an indifferent first season at Goodison Park. Carlo Ancelotti still boasts Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny, but the latter may leave in search of game time.

Newcastle have handed Javi Manquillo a new deal after a solid season under Steve Bruce, and also have Emil Krafth as an option – though DeAndre Yedlin is reportedly heading towards the exit door.

But Wolves arguably need him the most – following Matt Doherty’s move to Tottenham.
