The JEE Main 2020 results were declared at 11:30 pm on Friday and 24 candidates secured 100 percentile marks. The JEE Main exam was held from September 1 to 6 after months of protests against holding JEE and NEET amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Supreme Court shot down several petitions calling for the major entrance exams to be postponed, saying that students couldn’t lose a full year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

We got talking to JEE Main 2020 AIR 10 Tushar Sethi, one of the 24 candidates who secured 100 percentile marks, about how he prepared for one of the toughest exams in India.

Prepping for four years

A student of Bal Bharti Public School in Rohini, Tushar Sethi had been prepping for the major all-India engineering exam for four years. He started in class 9 and got admitted Vidyamandir Classes, a coaching centre which guides students to excel in JEE.

“They took the responsibility of guiding me in terms of teaching material, and motivating throughout these four years,” he said.

“Teachers, mentors, family, friends -- everyone had a key role in pushing me towards betterment,” he added.

Tushar’s parents Puneet and Sangita have always supported their son’s and are overjoyed with his performance in the JEE Main 2020.

How to focus on studies

Like most students preparing for major exams like JEE, Tushar too had to dial down any entertaining activities before the JEE Main exam.

“Till class 10, I was very much involved in sports, especially volleyball, for maintaining my physical health. But from class 11 onwards, I focused mostly on my studies and following a planned schedule,” he explained.

Many students face problems in exam preparation due to fear of not clearing it, anxiety issues, etc. but not Tushar.

“At times, improper planning and the occasional poor internal test score can make you feel low; one needs to lift themselves from these kinds of situations to increase their efficiency in exam preparation,” he said.

The JEE topper from Delhi said he is yet to decide what engineering branch he wants to pursue.

“I haven’t explored my options yet I have done Python in school and have a keen interest in computer science. But a final career decision is yet to be taken,” he said.

‘Be calm, be consistent’

Tushar said that despite the problems surrounding the conduction of JEE Main and NEET 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, he was not anxious.

“It is required to be calm during an exam,” he said.

On being asked the one tip he would like to share with future JEE Main candidates, he said: “Students need to be focused and need to remain consistent in their preparation.”

We wish Tushar all the best for his future endeavours!
