A man who was pulled from his burning car has been in hospital for more than eight days.

The driver's condition was initially described as "life-threatening" but thankfully Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now confirmed he is stable.

The serious smash closed the A4 Portway just after 4pm on Sunday, September 6.

A blue Citroen Xsara collided with a red Mitsubishi Outlander before hitting a lamp post and catching fire.

Members of the public heroically pulled the Citroen driver out of the burning car.

Police, paramedics and firefighters descended on the route, and a cordon was put in place.

The road was fully reopened more than five hours later, at 9.30pm.

If you saw the collision or the vehicles in the moments beforehand, or have any dashcam or other information which could help the investigation, call 101, quoting reference 5220202339.
