UFC Vegas 10 video recap: Michelle Waterson defeats Angela Hill by split decision

by

Michelle Waterson picked up a split decision victory (47-48, 49-46, 48-47) over Angela Hill in the main event of UFC Vegas 10.

What was the high point of the fight?

Hill and Waterson both had their moments, but the high point of the fight had to come in the second round courtesy of Hill. The primary weapon for Hill was a crisp right hand, which she landed often throughout the fight, but there was one that stunned Waterson pretty badly. Hill kept at it for the rest of the fight, and Waterson did seem to have some slight trouble dealing with it at first, but she adjusted and started utilizing her kicks to put some distance between her and Hill.

From there, Waterson worked hard to get the fight to ground, where she had a clear advantage. The ground work mixed in with her diverse attack in striking is what led her to victory after a closely contested fight.

Where do they go from here?

Now back in the win column, Waterson used her post-fight interview with color commentator Michael Bisping to call for a fight against “whoever gets her closer to the [strawweight] belt”. Seeing as how that may be someone ranked above her, Waterson will likely have to wait for some fights to happen first before making her next move. A good fight for Waterson to pay attention to would probably be the upcoming one between Claudia Gadelha vs. Yan Xiaonan.

Despite this being her second straight loss, the stock of Hill is unlikely to move too much. She showed she is worthy of being in the top 15, so book her against someone like Marina Rodriguez for her next outing.

Watch it now, later or never?

Watch this fight right now. Hill and Waterson delivered in five-round fight that was barely given a chance after it was bumped from co-main event to main event. If you want to enjoy a fun, back-and-forth affair, then this is a fight you want to watch.
