With an increase in the number of thefts in Kumaraswamy Layout, residents are now blaming bad infrastructures and lack of police patrol. In the past one week, five such incidents have taken place in KS Layout and most of them have gone unreported.
Mohammed Abdul Aleem, a resident of Kumaraswamy Layout, said, “Recently, my new mobile worth Rs 90,000 was snatched from my hand by two bike-borne men while I was walking on Kanakapura road. I tried chasing but they fled. This took place in broad daylight and they were so fast that we couldn’t even take down their vehicle number,” said Aleem.
He said his neighbour witnessed another incident last week. “He heard a pedestrian scream after two bike-borne men slashed his neck and robbed him. They immediately fled and the injured person was seen running towards the same direction in an attempt to get his valuables back while he was still bleeding. There were no street lights in the area,” he said.

Keerthi, another resident of KS Layout, said her maid, Radha, was robbed by two bike-borne men who snatched her purse and fled from the place right next to their apartment. She said, “She had just received her salary and was walking back home around 1 pm when the incident took place. She did not file a complaint with the police as she did not know the vehicle number nor did she see their faces.”
Chandrashekar, a businessman and a resident of Yelachenahalli, said two men entered an under-construction building during the wee hours on Sunday and escaped with materials worth Rs 2 lakh. He said, “They broke the CCTV camera and escaped with bathroom fittings.”
The residents have also written a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of the police (South) requesting them to increase the patrolling in their area. A senior officer said they have been on alert and will soon catch the culprits.
