Scots fugitive David ‘Murfy’ Hough arrested at Malaga airport over ‘organised crime and drugs offences’
by Rebecca GrayA SCOTS fugitive has been arrested by cops during a dramatic swoop at a Spanish airport, we can reveal.
David "Murfy" Hough, 40, was nicked by officers this afternoon over alleged organised crime and drugs offences.
Spanish cops detained the suspect at Malaga Airport, on the Costa Del Sol, as part of an investigation into alleged organised crime.
It is understood Hough, of East Kilbride, was wanted in connection with an investigation involving Police Scotland and the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Tonight, he is behind bars after the police operation in the popular holiday resort. Scots cops confirmed the force were aware of Hough’s detention.
It is not known how long Hough, of East Kilbride, had been in Spain before being arrested.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We can confirm a 40-year-old man was arrested in the Malaga area in Spain on a European Arrest Warrant on Friday September 11 in connection with organised crime and drugs offences.
"Officers from Police Scotland are continuing to liaise with the relevant authorities."
We previously told how the NCA and Police Scotland were part of a major operation to hack the military-grade EncroChat platform.
Law enforcement officers spent three months trawling through 25million texts in a bid to disrupt serious and organised crime gangs around the world.
Drugs worth £25million, £7million of dirty cash and 56 Encro phones were found in Scotland alone during the Operation Venetic blitz.
