2,976 deaths, 10,393 active cases of Covid-19 in Chennai

Chennai: The number of casualities caused by the pandemic in the city has reached 2,976 this morning.

The highest number of lives were claimed in Teynampet with 401 persons succumbing to the virus. The second highest casualty rate is in Anna Nagar with 333 lives being claimed by the viral infection.

Currently, the number of coronavirus cases has reached a mark of 10,393. Even as the overall spread of the viral infection has slumped, lesser number of cases are being reported in some parts of the city. Chennai has recorded 1,48,584 cases, of which, 1,35,215 have recovered.

As part of rapid testing, on 13 September, as many as 12,180 persons were tested for coronavirus. The Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.

According to the data, Anna Nagar, a containment zone has 1,053 persons contracting the virus, Kodambakkam has close to 1,194 cases. Only these two areas have more than 1,000 cases.

Other places with comparatively high numbers are, Ambattur with 800 active cases, Valsaravakkam recording 820 active cases, Adyar with 839 cases, Teynampet has 816 active cases and 822 cases in Royapuram. In Kodambakkam, as many as 15,276 persons have recovered.

The pandemic has affected more men than women. As per data, 61.14 per cent of the patients are male and 38.86 per cent are female.

Around 18.12 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years.
