Warne to mentor RR youngsters

Dubai: Legendary spinner Shane Warne has been appointed mentor of Rajasthan Royals ahead of the 2020 IPL besides his existing role as the team's brand ambassador. Warne has been associated with IPL since its inception in 2008 and led the team to its only title triumph in that inaugural year. As a 'Team Mentor', Warne will work alongside head coach Andrew McDonald. They both were teammates in Victoria from 2003-07. "On my dual role, it's always a great feeling to be back with Royals, my team, my family. It's exciting to be working across all elements of this franchise that I love," Warne was quoted as saying in a press release.

Madrid: Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone has the coronavirus. The Argentine wasn't showing any symptoms and was in isolation, the club said on Saturday. Simeone and the rest of the team were tested on Friday. The club did not say if anyone else was infected. The Spanish league stopped play from March until June because of the pandemic. The top flight managed to finish the season in July without any major infections.

Milla shines for Granada

Barcelona: Granada struck first against Bilbao when Yangel Herrera headed in a cross in the 49th. Milla scored four minutes later. Milla's goal capped an impressive effort from the team that is hoping to build on its excellent return to the first division last season, when Granada earned a Europa League berth by finishing in seventh place. Milla is Granada's major signing of the offseason after it spent a reported 5 million euros (USD 5.9 million) to sign him from second-tier club Tenerife. Granada is owned by Chinese businessman Jiang Lizhang, who also is a minority owner of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves. Coach Diego Martínez, however, is keeping his goals modest.

6-day quarantine for returning Aussies

Durban: Australian cricketers like Steve Smith and David Warner will have to remain in isolation for six days after arrival in the UAE for the IPL despite having spent time at bio-secure bubble in the UK, according to Chennai Super Kings bowling consultant Eric Simons. Smith (Rajasthan Royals), Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Australia team-mate Josh Hazlewood (CSK) will head straight to the UAE from the UK after the third and final ODI against England on Wednesday. They have been in a bio-secure bubble throughout the limited-overs series in England. But Simons said there will be no leniency and the Australians in all likelihood will have to serve a minimum of six days in quarantine before integrating with their squads.
